Every year it seems that the experts are compiling lists of marriage issues that seem to be the most common. While top ten lists regularly appear, it seemed better to focus on the top four issues that show up most. They should be fairly obvious once you glance at them. It should also be clear why these four issues deserve their places in the top four.
Naturally, money takes first place; it always does. More couples fight over money and finances than any other issue. Often the issue comes down to control but it may take the form of separate bank accounts. In many cases, one wants a separate account while the other is against it. Oddly enough, financial experts have reported that you may actually fight less when you have access to your own supply of money. Where this becomes a problem, at times, is when you decide to make large purchases without consulting your spouse. It is really essential to get approval before making such big buys. Another factor that contributes to marriage issues about money involves lack of communication about them. This lack of regard for financial stability may even create debt troubles for the couple if they’re not careful.
The fact that sex ranks as number two on the list of marriage issues probably isn’t a shock most of you. The top reason this was a problem was because of a lack of sex. Various numbers mention both sexes citing this reason, with men ranking higher than women. The point was that they both want more sex more often. Another cause of sexual tension in the marriage was the use of pornography by men in the marriage relationship. By a large margin, men are visiting gentlemen’s clubs and pornographic websites against the wishes of their wives. Of course, the issue was also made worse when unsuspecting women found out what their husbands were doing.
A unexpected third on the top four list of marriage issues was in-laws. It’s sad that one or both of the spouses have family that do cause difficulties in the marriage. Sometimes, the behavior of in-laws can break up families. It seems women and men are equally at fault for this. In most cases, it is about the family trying to stay too involved in the couple’s lives. In other words, they’re nosy. Ideally, the offending family member should be told to back off the situation, but they often are not. The arguments and the conflict get worse because one spouse won’t defend the other.
The last of the marriage issues listed here is adultery. The numbers on adulterous affairs are staggering, which means that more people are cheating on their spouses. Of course, men rank first here as well. This doesn’t mean that women are trailing behind. This issue is connected to number two. For men it is a lack of sexual intimacy. For women, however, it is more based on lack of emotional support. Either member may choose to look for the missing piece beyond their marriage and then are eventually discovered.
